INTERESTING.
No really. I'm chewing through the tutorials at learncpp.com - most of it is stuff I've learned before at Uni but not used much since then. It's a good refresher though, and this site is by far the easiest presentation of the information so far. A few other sites just don't feel like they're educating, more just presenting the information.
At any rate, gotta get the foundations right, right?

So. This should be interesting
It begins.....
Well, here I am. The purpose of this blog is to document my attempt to go from an Electronic Engineer to a Game developer in 12 months. This should be interesting. Feel free to come along on this journey. I may fail, but fuck it, I'll fail well.
About me:
I'm 33 and stuck in an industry that doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast, at least not in Australia. It took me this long to start regretting my career choice, when I look back at my education path and life, I really am surprised I didn't end up as a game developer. My passions are music, video games, and general tech / geekery. How I ended up as an Electronic Engineer is anyone's guess. Seemed like a good idea at the time?
Anyway, game dev is ripe at the moment, especially for the indie / solo dev, and I want to take advantage of that. I won't lie, part of this is to try and create a new source of income, and one that I hope will let me continue on this path as a game dev.
Where I'm going with this:
I have a game idea that I hope to develop. I'm going to do it alone, or at least I'm starting out alone.
As much to learn about every aspect of the process as possible. It's a game for mobiles, one that is designed to take advantage of the format, rather than try to sandwich touch-controls on to an existing idea.
I have some basic programming knowledge under my belt. Expanding on it will be the first step.Along the way I'm going to write little tools, programs, things that give me practice. So for what it's worth, though it's a long way off, if you can think of any little tools or ideas that you've never been able to find as an application, feel free to suggest them as programming exercises for me.
What to expect:
My thoughts, my ramblings, my successes and failures along the way. More than happy to accept advice on things I'm struggling with.
What I don't want to hear and will ignore is "Why are you doing this, what's the point, the market is saturated, you should learn how to program in a team as well" and so on. I'm well aware of these things, they're outside the scope of this blog, and this project. I'm doing it this way because I want to.
I'll put up any useful programs I create. I'll show off work in progress, artwork as it happens, and so on. Perhaps not giving away the idea though, I'm fairly proud of the idea itself and I think it has real potential. I know what the code/asset thieves are like in the mobile games market, and I don't want to get ripped off before I even begin.
So then:
Here goes....
